Backpack Katmai with Alaska Alpine Adventures.  Since 2001, we have been guiding backpacking trips through the Valley of 10,000 Smokes - the scarred remnant of the largest volcanic eruption of the 20 century.  The 1912 volcanic blast of Novarupta completely denuded a 40 square-mile valley and buried it under 700' of ash.  What's left is a surreal landscpe of ash, sand, incised canyons, and glacier clad volcanoes.   Within Katmai National Park, you will  also find millions of spawning sockeye salmon and earth's largest concentration of brown bears enjoying an annual feast.  Backpacking Katmai National Park is definitely a backpacker's trip of a lifetime!
